| Ok Tim, thanks for the nudge. It's been over a month since the last update, but give me a break, there have been a lot of things going on in my life and I didn't want to post about them until I got some t's crossed and i's dotted. The big news: We are moving to Dayton!! As of 30 June 2007, I will be the Associate Pastor of Youth and Worship at Aley UMC in Beavercreek, Ohio. While I am psyched about the new job and the challenges that it is bound to bring about, I am truly sad to leave all of my good friends in the youth group (and the church) at Mt Tabor and at Cairo Christian Church. Angie has gotten a great job at a dayspa in Beavercreek and I will get to see Cyle, Patty, Rachel and Carver more often! Hopefully even Timmy the Hatboy will make the odd appearance, let's face it what other kind of appearance could he make than odd?? Just kidding--that was payback for your entry. Yes, I will still be at camp, crosstraining and the like. Yes, I will be bringing some of the youth from Aley to camp next year, so make 'em feel welcome when you see 'em. I want to thank everyone for all that they have done to help me in the ministry at Mt Tabor. I really hate to leave, but when the Big Guy calls, you must go. I will still be here for any and all who need/want to talk. That will never change. Peace everyone, Goodjim | | |
| Well here we are, a new month and a new update from GoodJim. Where does the time go? Schedules are filling up and lots of activities all around. Things are going great with the youth group. Still having good numbers on Wednesday nights despite the hectic sports schedule that we always seem to be up against. I have gotten to see a lot of Cyle lately, which is a good thing. But I still have yet to see Carver! I think that Cyle is isolating him so as to minimize the Buckeye influence of Good and Bad Jim. So we have to pray that Timmy the hatboy has a great influence on his wee nephew. Workouts are not going as well as I had planned. With my schedule and my wife's schedule I can never seem to get to the gym. So that's a bummer. But I am still losing a little weight here and there so it's not a total loss. The New Jersey Devils have made it into the playoffs for a tenth consecutive year! So you know what I will be watching yet again this year...that's right the Stanley Cup Playoffs!! Go Marty, Go Devils! Just watched "Man on Fire" (Denzel Washington movie), I am not a huge Denzel fan but this movie rocked! Anytime that there is a revenge motif in a film I usually end up liking it. But in the end Denzel trades his life for the life of the little girl so she can go back home. (Collective "Awww" is appropriate here) Facing the Giants, awesome movie!! So is Amazing Grace, go see both!! That's all for now, see ya next month!! | | |
| Well here it is a new month, must be time for GoodJim to update on Xanga! There are lots of new and exciting things going on here in the world of Jim. To update those of you who have fallen behind, the Devils are in first place in their division, 2nd overall in the Eastern Conference. Martin Brodeur holds the NHL season record for shutouts at 12! So during the Stanley Cup playoffs, nobody better have a crisis because I am watching the games!!! (Just kidding, you know I always have time for you all!) The two volunteers that I had lined up to be the pilot program for the youth worker mentoring thang have been called to bigger and better things. Brandon got laid off from his job in Lima and is now working at a Harley dealership in Kentucky. Rachel, well she will be assisting Cyle in Springfield. (I knew he was jealous of me so he had to steal her away!) Cyle and I have some projects going so hopefully you will all see the fruits of our upcoming labor soon. Youth group at Mt Tabor is going great, mission trip planned for July 21-28th, we have most of the details ironed out so we are ahead of schedule there! I have to give a nod to BadJim. He has inspired me. Today I bought a membership to the gym and started working out. Oh yeah, feel the burn. Who knows maybe Jim and I will be able to get up early at camp and go for a morning jog or two?! That's about all for now. Peace yall GoodJim | | |
| Ola everyone. Ok I don't even know if I spelled that correctly so don't everyone jump on to correct my Spanish. Was out in Sunny Southern California last week and met a person who had never seen snow. I offered to mail her some but she wasn't interested. While out there the whole Anna Nicole Smith thing broke. As I was watching the endless news coverage and the subsequent late night talk show hosts jokes about it I started to think about her life. I came to one conclusion...it was a tragedy. Don't get me wrong, I am not an Anna Nicole fan. Never saw her in Playboy, didn't want to, didn't need to, I am married to a beautiful woman so I don't need to see anyone else naked. Never watched her soft-porn shows, see reason above. Never met her. While I was at dinner with a group of pastors the subject came up and some jokes were made. Nothing off color or tasteless, but I was really mad. For once I bit my tongue and didn't say anything...yeah I know what is the world coming too! I call it a tragedy for a couple of reasons. (1). Her daughter will never get to personally know her mum. That just sucks for so many reasons. She will know her second hand and by what she can read and see in books and magazines...that is tragic seeing what material there is isn't really flattering. (2). She didn't have anyone in her life who told her about Christ. Now maybe someone tried and she rebuffed them, maybe someone wanted to but couldn't get close to her, maybe she didn't return phone calls, I don't know but when someone dies without Christ it's a tragedy, and I don't care who they are. Anna Nicole Smith was no less a child of God than you and I and Billy Graham, and every other "important" person I could name. She lived a wretched life, but think about this for a minute; the same media that ridiculed and berated her in life and death is the same media that promotes the hedonistic and self-gratifying life that she pursued. Hypocritical, yeah ya think? In the words of John Newton, the author of "Amazing Grace", "I am a great sinner and Christ is a great savior." We are all a little Anna Nicole Smith and if we die without Christ it's tragic. As a great sinner who was redeemed by Christ I know the loneliness of that lifestyle that she led, there comes a time when all the drugs, sex, alcohol, cheap thrills, etc, etc leave you feeling as empty as a tomb. Death becomes attractive. Fortuneately for me I had a lot of people praying for me and eventually I gave my life to Christ. I had time for a second chance, Anna didn't. Do you know an Anna Nicole Smith? Don't let another person die without being given the opportunity to give their lives to Christ. Even if they rebuff you, don't return phone calls, or seem unapproachable don't let that stop you, the need is too great, the consequences of living eternity without Christ too severe. Share your faith with those in need around you. Sorry if this was too depressing or too serious. On a lighter side, "Amazing Grace" the movie is opening on the 23rd of February. Go and check it out. It is amazing, wonderful and powerful. Go to www.amazinggracethemovie.com to check it out. Peace y'all Go Devils!! | | |

Ok now I'm getting grief from Kurt and Timmy the Hatboy. Sorry I haven't updated in a while, but I have been busy, so I guess I'm not really sorry. (Is that Chuck Norris enough for you Tim?) Some big news from Mt Tabor: We have started a youth worker mentoring program. This basically is to give some training and practical experience to people who want to work with youth. So far we have 2 guinea pigs, I mean volunteers. I am really excited about this and so are they. Who knows where this will lead??... On Feb 5 Cyle and I and 6 other pastors are heading to sunny CA. Cyle has promised that we will go to Mexico and I hope I have enough money for bail. Other than that not much new, just busier than Chuck Norris during a crime spree. Too many people too few roundhouse kicks...... | | |
